Andesite Stone

A grey volcanic stone for paving, steps and cladding.

Five Andesite Stone paving pieces on a pale surface, showing the sawn edge and the even grey tone

Overview

Andesite is a volcanic stone, grey rather than green or charcoal, and the quietest face in the range. It sits evenly next to other materials, which is usually why it is chosen for large paved areas and hard landscape.

It is normally asked for as paving, steps and cladding, and quoted against the drawing so the modules, the thickness and the edge treatment match the detail.

Appearance and variation

Grey, cool rather than warm, and more even in tone than the greener and darker stones in the range. Because the tone is quiet, andesite usually lets the planting and the architecture carry the space instead of the paving.

Tested technical properties (water absorption, density, slip rating, frost resistance) are not published here, because no test data has been supplied for this stone. If your specification calls for a tested value, ask for it in the enquiry and we will confirm what can be provided and what cannot.

Sizes and finishes

What we need to quote this stone

Quoted per order

Andesite is normally quoted by format: paving modules, step pieces and cladding panels are produced to the drawing rather than cut down from stock sizes. Send the layout and the thickness you have allowed for, and we quote against it.

Tell us five things and we can quote:

  • Thickness
  • Format and nominal size
  • Surface finish
  • Edge treatment
  • Packing unit

Formats, thickness and finish are quoted against your order rather than published as a fixed list, because what the block allows and what the finish needs change from one order to the next. Send the schedule or the drawing with your enquiry and we will confirm what we can produce for it.

Applications

What this stone is asked for

  • Paving and plaza work
  • Step treads and edges
  • Wall cladding and retaining faces
  • Driveway and entrance paving
  • Hard landscape in public areas

These are the uses this stone is usually asked for. Whether it suits your project depends on the finish, the thickness and how your contractor will fix it, so confirm the application in your enquiry before you specify.

Questions

Andesite Stone: what buyers ask

How does Andesite Stone differ from Black Lava Stone?

Both are volcanic. Andesite sits in the grey range and Black Lava in the charcoal range, so the choice is usually about how much weight the surface should carry. If you have a reference image, send it and we will tell you which of the two reads closer.

Can Andesite Stone be used for a driveway?

It is asked for as paving. Whether it suits your driveway depends on the thickness, the finish and what the pieces are laid on, so send the build-up with the enquiry and we confirm before you specify.

Do you supply cut-to-size pieces or only standard formats?

Formats are quoted per order. Give us the module, the tolerance you can work to and the quantity, and we confirm what can be produced for that order rather than pointing at a stock list.
